About

IndoSec is dedicated to promoting issues related to Information Security among individuals and corporations, primarily in India. These are issues relating to the perception of the Internet as a medium, and its real and perceived threats - issues relating to Data Protection, Privacy, Freedom of speech on the Internet, Internet Censorship, Cyber Laws etc.

I believe that while India is blazing a path in Information Technology, an understanding of the medium itself is lacking. This is particularly acute in the areas mentioned.

As a democratic nation, it is imperative that a wider understanding of these issues exists. An enlightened knowledge base will hopefully lead to enlightened policy making that is in the spirit of values we hold dear.

This is crucial in a world where free speech, opinion and fundamental rights are being threatened. Even where such extreme threats are not present it is imperative to promote such understanding so that corporates and governments perform their duties towards clients and citizens by protecting their data, and using it in a fair and controlled manner.

This is not to mean that legitimate threats be overlooked. The genuine concerns of law makers and enforcers must also be addressed. However, sacrificing one for the other for short term and immediate gains is ultimately self defeating.

This site will act as a forum to bring the knowledge and experience of these issues from countries and individuals that have already been facing these challenges.
